Stephen Dorff Replaces Matt Dillon In ‘Boot Tracks’

Source: FilmShaft

Casting plans have changed for the David Jacobson’s upcoming indie flick Boot Tracks, withStephen Dorff replacing Matt Dillon as the lead role. Dorff (‘Blade’) will now slot in to a cast that already features Ray Winstone and Michelle Monaghan.

Jacobson will direct the film which is an adaptation of Matthew F. Jones’ novel of the same name. In taking over from Dillon, Dorff will portray the lead character, Charlie Rankin, an ex-con who shares a fling with a former porn star (Monaghan) before setting off to fulfil a task of honour at the request of fellow inmate, ‘Buddha’ (Winstone).

No specific reason has been stated for Dillon pulling out, but Dorff seems like a more than adequate replacement. Dorff was seen in fellow indie film ‘Somewhere’ last year. He is currently shooting the drama ‘The Motel Life’ and Brian A. Miller’s upcoming crime drama ‘Officer Down’. Meanwhile, Dillon will feature in the new CBS comedy series ‘How to Be a Gentleman’.

Here is a more detailed synopsis of Jones’ novel, courtesy of Amazon.

“This dark novel by Jones (Deepwater) follows a damaged, unstable jailbird named Charlie Rankin and a porn actress named Florence Jane on a violent road trip toward possible redemption. Fresh from a four-year prison sentence (for robbing a vending machine and breaking a security guard’s jaw), Charlie begins a trek to carry out a murder for his jailhouse friend and mentor William “the Buddha” Pettigrew, meeting insecure, trusting Florence along the way. In the dark of suburbia, Charlie accidentally chooses the wrong house; haunted by memories of childhood abuse, Charlie kills the couple living there, believing they are his mom and her abusive boyfriend. Battered and bloodied, he takes refuge at Florence’s apartment and is surprised by her unquestioning acceptance. As the two lost souls take to the road, cautiously exploring the blossoming love between them, Charlie must decide between completing his duty to the Buddha-and letting loose the violent urges within him-and the alien feelings he’s developed for Florence.”

The film is scheduled for release later this year.

Tony Kaye Says Unreleased ‘Black Water Transit’ Is “Not Finished Yet”

Source: IndieWIRE

Kaye has another completed film on the shelf, the 2008-shot thriller, “Black Water Transit” starring Karl Urban, Laurence Fishburne, Brittany Snow, Stephen Dorff and more. The crime drama follows the divergent agendas of criminals, cops and lawyers as they collide over a shipment of illegal firearms and a double homicide. Earl Pike (Urban), a criminal, tries to get his family’s illegal gun collection to a safe haven, while attempting to get his junkie son freed from prison. While ‘Transit’ is involved in a similar situation as David O. Russell’s “Nailed,” being from the same financiers, Kaye seems optimistic about the film seeing a release soon.

“It’s about characters in New Orleans after the flood,” said Kaye. “The movie is not finished yet. And me and David O. Russell and a few other filmmakers, we got caught in a hurricane. The poor company that financed it [Capitol Films], they had big ideas. And for us, the ideas were too big. Unfortunately, they just stretched themselves too thin. But they are gonna [finish it] at some point, and I’m praying that [‘Detachment’] will do well.”

Somewhere – Stephen Dorff Interview

The people at Reelz.com had the opportunity to talk to Stephen about making Somewhere and what his mother thought of the movie. Watch the video HERE.

Stephen Dorff at the Chateau Marmont

An interesting interview with Stephen, during the filming of Sofia Coppola’s “Somewhere“. Stephen Dorff lived in a room just a few floors up from where his character lived. Here he shows us around the his room at the Chateau Marmont, and how it felt living like his character Johnny Marco.

I’ve also added a few pictures from the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences’ 2nd Annual Governors Awards which was held in in Los Angeles on November 13. Stephen attended the event with Sofia Coppola and Elle Fanning.

Peter Medak Directing Maria Bello and Stephen Dorff in Carjacked

Source: Slashfilm.com The director Peter Medak has had an interesting career. While he’s done mostly TV for the past few years, he made a mark early on with the unusual Peter O’Toole film The Ruling Class. Since then he’s made a bit of crap here and there, as well as a few other good, or at least interesting movies, like The Changeling, The Krays and Romeo is Bleeding. Now he’ll direct Stephen Dorff and Maria Bello in a thriller called Carjacked.

The Wrap says that the Michael and Sherry Compton script is about “a single mother (Bello) and her child who are carjacked by a thief (Dorff) who has no intention of letting them go.” That’s all we’ve got on this one so far, beyond the fact that Ron Perlman and Giovanni Ribisi had previously been linked to Dorff’s role, and that Saffron Burrows would have played the single mom opposite Perlman, had that version been made.

“Somewhere” Production Notes

I found two interesting articles about the production of Somewhere and a Q&A with director Sofia Coppola. In the articles, both Sofia and Stephen reflect on working together, filming at the Chateau Marmont, bonding with Elle Fanning, smoking and music.

Sofia says, “I’ve always thought he was talented. I’ve known him a while and I wanted to see him doing something he hadn’t [yet] done – a side he hadn’t shown audiences. When I sent him the script, he said, “I get it. I totally can relate to this guy.” Stephen has a reputation for being out and about with girls, but he also has a little sister around Cleo’s age that he’s close with.”

Dorff reflects, “The emotions in Somewhere are real, but subtle. Sofia, being both open and precise, created a foundation where Elle and I could get to them. It had been a long time since I’d been on a set where there wasn’t a bunch of monitors being watched; Sofia would always be watching us.”

Stephen’s co-star Elle Fanning, “Stephen and I have a lot in common. He went to the same school that I go to. We both bite our nails. We’re both from Georgia, and we both like our food well-done – really crispy! We now have a father/daughter-type relationship outside of the movie.”

‘War of the Gods’ Renamed

There a lot of upcoming films that will tackle the subject of Greek mythology but none as anticipated as Tarsem Singh’s War of the Gods. It’s currently in production and Relativity Media sent out a press release letting everyone know that they’ve made a few major changes. War of Gods will now be called Immortals.

Immortals will center on a young warrior named Theseus (played by Henry Cavill) who leads his men into battle with the immortal Greek gods to defeat the evil and powerful elder gods of the Titans in order to save mankind. Mickey Rourke will star as the film’s villain King Hyperion, while Frieda Pinto will play Phaedra, an oracle priestess who aids the young warrior on his quest.

The film will feature plenty of familiar faces in godly roles like Twilight’s Kellan Lutz as Poseidon god of the sea. John Hurt has joined the cast as Zeus who acts as a mentor and teacher to the young warrior Theseus and Australian actress Isabel Lucas will play his daughter Athena, who finds her loyalty tested as the war between the gods and Titans looms.  Stephen Dorff also co-stars alongside Luke Evans who played Apollo in Clash of the Titans.
