First official still from ‘Somewhere’

The first official still from Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere has been released featuring Stephen with his co-star Elle Fanning. A cute picture don’t you think? Until the gallery is back online, please click the pic for the full size.

Somewhere still

Johnny Marco (Stephen Dorff) is a bad-boy A-List actor stumbling through a life of excess while living at Hollywood’s legendary Chateau Marmont Hotel.  His days are a haze of drinks, girls, fast cars and fawning fans.  Cocooned in this celebrity-induced artificial world, Johnny has lost all sense of his true self.  Until, that is, his 11-year-old daughter Cleo (Elle Fanning) unexpectedly shows up and unwittingly begins to anchor him.  Johnny’s fragile connection to real life slowly revives in her presence. So when the time comes fro Cleo to leave, his sense of loss is palpable, but the gift of hope she has also brought him leads to a beautiful, poetic denouement imbued with all of Coppola’s remarkable powers to conjure mood and atmosphere.

Filming of ‘Somewhere’ in Italy

Filming for Stephen’s latest movie Somewhere has started in Milan, Italy, and I’m pleased to say that we have some on set images. Stephen was seen with co-star Elle Fanning, who plays his daughter in the film. A huge thanks to Jess at Totally Elle, for allowing me to post them here.

Happy Birthday Stephen!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Stephen Dorff turned 36 a few days ago, on the 29th of July. How time flies doesn’t it? As of yet we don’t know how Stephen celebrated his birthday, but in true Stephen style, I’m sure he had a kick-ass time! So HAPPY BIRTHDAY Stephen, and best wishes for the year ahead.

Just 10 days ago Stephen was seen holidaying in France with good friend and fellow actor,  Owen Wilson.  He was sporting a few new tattoos, including wings on his right arm, and was wearing a hat that read ‘Somewhere‘, the title of his latest movie that he is currently working on with director Sofia Coppola.

Stephen Dorff hails Sofia Coppola

Stephen Dorff has revealed that Sofia Coppola has given him an “incredible part” in new film Somewhere.

Speaking at the Los Angeles premiere of his latest film Public Enemies, Stephen wouldn’t give too much away about the new film apart from the fact he’s going to play a Hollywood actor.

The star gushed: “Sofia is the greatest and she gave me an incredible part we’re shooting now.”

He continued: “I can’t really talk too much about the movie because she doesn’t really want people to know what it is.

“It’s about a guy and his little girl and that’s really all that’s out there in the press right now so I don’t want to comment too much.

“But I can just tell you that I think it’s gonna be really special.”

The movie is also thought to star Ella Fanning as Stephen character’s daughter, and Jackass star Chris Pontius.

Los Angeles Film Festival Announces Lineup Including Johnny Depp’s Public Enemies

Source: AMC News

This week the Los Angeles Film Festival announced its lineup of films including the premiere of Michael Mann’s gangster thriller Public Enemies — the real-life Depression-era tale of legendary bank robber John Dillinger — starring Johnny Depp.

In the midst of The Great Depression, Dillinger’s bank heists made him a mythical hero in the eyes of Americans who blamed the nation’s banks for sinking the country into economic turmoil (hmmm…sound familiar?). During a recent Entertainment Weekly interview Depp said of Dillinger, “Some people might disagree, but I think he was a real-life Robin Hood.” Well, he’s got the robbing part correct.

Dillinger’s crimes and subsequent jailbreaks made him the No. 1 target of J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI and its top agent Melvin Purvis, played by Christian Bale in the film. Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard portrays Dillinger’s girlfriend, Billie Frechette, with Stephen Dorff, Giovanni Ribisi and Billy Crudup rounding out the cast. The film was written and directed by Michael Mann, best known for thrillers like 1995′s Heat, 1999′s The Insider and 2004′s Collateral.

This should be an action-packed shoot-em-up blockbuster (check out the trailer) and also an intriguing one from a storytelling perspective because Depp and Bale share only one scene together. I’m sure their eventual on-screen meeting will be totally worth the wait.

With Public Enemies anchoring LAFF’s slate of 200 feature films, shorts and music videos from over 30 countries, it will help achieve festival director Rebecca Yeldham’s goal of providing festival-goers with “…a sneak peek at the great movies of the summer.”

Opening and closing night films are yet to be announced by the LAFF which runs from June 18-28 and is produced by Film Independent.

Stephen Dorff Cast in Sofia Coppola’s New Project

Somewhere cast

Sofia Coppola is checking into a new hotel for her next project.

The writer-director who shot her “Lost in Translation” at the Park Hyatt in Tokyo, practically making a character out of the antiseptic structure, will set her next film at the iconic Chateau Marmont in Hollywood.

Stephen Dorff and Elle Fanning will star in the Focus Features dramedy “Somewhere,” which Coppola penned.

Story centers on a bad-boy actor stumbling through a life of excess at the Chateau Marmont. With an unexpected visit from his 11-year-old daughter, he is forced to reexamine his life. Sounds like Dorff is being set up for a Mickey Rourke-like performance.

The filmmaker, who said she has been looking to make “an intimate story set in contemporary Los Angeles,” received permission to shoot at the hotel, which has become notorious in recent years as a popular address for tabloid-friendly celebs. Film will lense in L.A. and Italy in June and July.

Project reunites Coppola with the film company with which she made the critical darling and box office hit “Lost in Translation.”

“‘Lost in Translation‘ remains among Focus’ most beloved movies, so we have long looked forward to making another picture with Sofia,” Focus CEO James Schamus said. “‘Somewhere’ will have all the witty, moving and empathetic qualities that characterize all her work.”

Somewhere” is something of a family affair. Coppola is producing with brother Roman Coppola (The Darjeeling Limited) and G. Mac Brown (Australia) through American Zoetrope. Father Francis Ford Coppola, Fred Roos and Paul Rassam are exec producing.

Project marks Sofia Coppola’s fourth film. She also wrote and directed The Virgin Suicides and Marie Antoinette.”

Fanning most recently starred in “Phoebe in Wonderland.”

Dorff will next appear in Michael Mann‘s Public Enemies for Universal Pictures.
